India Reflections

Avatars

The avatars come down for a definite purpose, endowed with all the necessary powers required for the accomplishment of the work allotted to them. That may, in other words, serve to be their samskaras which brought them down into the world. The power withdraws them after their work is finished.

Destination

The end of religion is the beginning of spirituality; the end of spirituality is the beginning of Reality, and the end of Reality is the real Bliss. When that too is gone, we have reached the destination. That is the highest mark, which is almost inexpressible in words.

Moderation

One of the essentials in the making of a man engaged in spiritual pursuit is moderation. It is a very wide term and covers every phase of human activity. It means balance in all senses and faculties, nothing more or less than what is naturally required at the time for any specific purpose, without its slightest impression on the mind.

Openness

Openness only will create confidence going into faith. If I am closed all the time, nothing will work.... It is faith that works, not God, not guru.... As Babuji said, doubt is the poison of the soul. Why is it the poison of the soul? Because it prevents every healing aspect of divine shakthi or power to come into me and heal me.

Aspiration

The soul, in its purity and in its aspiration for liberation, decided before this birth that this was the environment where it could evolve. So my aspiration is, please do not spoil that original aspiration of the soul which brought you to where you are; allow it to unfold, without interfering. And what causes this interference is nothing but desire.

Human Beings

Nature only responds to what human beings do and think. Animals cannot influence the earth. Birds cannot influence; angels cannot influence; only human life [can], because human beings have been given the power of thought. As Babuji said, what distinguishes [us] from the rest of creation is that we have a will and we have an intellect – the intellect to help us to choose what is right, and the will to enable us to do what is right.

Evolution

There is no such thing as good behavior or bad behavior. There is only behavior which will take us up, and behavior which will bring us down. ... Sahaj Marg says, do, feel, what is good for your evolution; eat what is good for your evolution – everything for your evolution. Evolution is, shall we say, the goal by which we should judge what we should do and think.

Here and Now

The fundamental truth of spirituality is here and now. Not yesterday, not tomorrow - here and now. If we are here together as a group, brought together by a common aspiration, belonging to a common brotherhood of human beings, there is no problem at all. We help each other, we love each other, we support each other and we are There. 'There' means wherever we should be, by the grace of Master.

The Past

The past should not worry us, because it is the past and we can do nothing to change it. What should concern us is the future, which we can affect by our present action. It is in this direction that our endeavours must lie. The immediate past is of no more consequence than the more distant past. So Master says, "Think all past actions to be those of a past life. This will make it easy to ignore them and to concentrate on laying the basis for future spiritual development." This is an important...

The Present

A person's past may have been anything. What is he now? This is the most important thing. But we, most of us, rarely ask this question because we are predominantly worried only about the past antecedents. Thus, we miss the real person and see only a tangled and superficial web of trivialities enclosing the individual like a fly in a spider's web.... Living in the present unites us, while living in the past can tend to separate person from person and, as history records for us, even nation from...
