India Reflections

Will Power

In seeking pleasure we destroy our will power. In overcoming pain, in overcoming problems, in surmounting difficulties, we use will power.

Growth

Growth is measured by your growth in tolerance, your acceptance of all as equal, your acceptance that whatever you may be, whoever you may be, you are my sisters and my brothers.

Live in the Present

All past, future and present are human creations. Animals don't know of a yesterday or a tomorrow. They live in the present. If we could also live in the present, this present would be eternal; there would be no past, no future – "I am."

Love II

Love, compassion and mercy are not three different things. They are the same thing, like a diamond which manisfests different faces. Love in action is mercy and compassion. Love within itself is a presence which offers itself, not knowingly but by the fact of its presence, to anything that is around it.

Evolution II

It is said that below the human level everything evolves automatically, naturally, level to level, like water rising in a tank when new water flows in. At our level we have to do it consciously. Above our level, again, you know, it is automatic, natural, infinite.

Children

A child is a book that you must learn to open and read. You don't need information about parents and society and culture. With love, everything is open. Without love, everything is closed.

Forget and Forgive

We should always forget and forgive. There is no question of 'when'. For your health, you must always forget and forgive. One easy solution is, put yourself in the other person's place. If I were that person, what would I want from other people? Would I look for forgiving and forgetting? Or will I say, punish me?

Real Craving

A man can be a real man only when his eye is diverted towards his inner self. Therein lies the real quest for Reality. One who adheres to it establishes his footing in the sphere from which everything descended by itself. In other words, he connects his link with the main Source. The only thing which remains then is its expansion, for which the prescribed abhyas is sufficient.

Sacrifice

Sacrifice means not that you gave money to the church, or did some poor feeding or helped some student through class in his education. That is not sacrifice. Sacrifice, in my understanding, means never thinking of yourself. Unless you can stop thinking of yourself in any situation, at any time, anywhere, there is no sacrifice.

Pure Thoughts

Everything comes first into the mind and then into the active world. So we must train ourselves not to have thoughts about unwanted things, about negative things, about sickness, about illness, about meanness. That is why it is important that you think well of all. If you think so-and-so is bad and nasty, that person will be bad and nasty, at least to you. So everything in the world happens from our thought. Thoughts lead to action. Therefore moral law says, purify your thoughts.
