A few days before colliding with a turtle surfing at Ho'okipa Beach, Maui I was at the Kazuma Surf Factory discussing with Matt about how best to customize an existing board shape that they rave about, to fit 'me'. It's a 7 foot 4 inch mini tanker with a rounded nose, width 21 inches and 2.897 inch thickness, three skegs (fins). with a high performance short board feel and extra body for easy paddling and floatation. Plus Matt arranged for a blue watery tie dye acid effect on the topside of the 'blank' before fiberglassing the board. And ... I got a blue Dakine leash to match. I appreciate your great advice Matt, you're a true shaper and some say a really cool pro surfer. I took my board out in small surf last Sunday at Ho'okipa where the turtles hang out. The board paddles and maneuvers easily, and it's really quick on turning with the rail holding the wave. I look forward to some bigger swells hitting our shores and feeling how it really performs . . . read more about Kazuma Surf Factory. ps. Matt said that they get boards coming into their surf factory every week to repair because of the turtles at Ho'okipa, and have been waiting for someone to have a serious injury with a turtle encounter. |
