Aloha
May I offer our respects
and heart-felt sympathy for the hurricane victims of New Orleans
and the Gulf Coast. Unexpected change, whether it's from an external
or internal source, can cause suffering and offer new perspectives.
Change is a guarantee in life. The study of the Patanjali Yoga Sutra-s
gives us the ability to see clearly, especially when change is happening
around and within us. With this understanding we then have a greater
ability to accept and cope. Having increased clarity we are then
better equipped to help with efficiency and effectiveness. Whether
the change comes as Hurricane Katrina, or there's personal change,
it may require us to meditate on stillness so that we can choose
how best to serve with a new perspective.
YOGA
CLASSES IN MAKAWAO
August was an extremely busy month setting
up the yoga studio and boutique. There are four teachers; Ted Surman,
Lauren Smith, Shari Sunshine and Yoko Nagashima. Classes are 8:30am
Monday to Saturday and 5:30pm Tuesday to Friday. For a September
class schedule please click: http://www.yogaawareness.com/byLocationMaui.php,
then select 'yoga class' submit and 'September 2005' submit.
I would like to express my appreciation
for the existing student support and welcome the new students who
are finding us. Many are thanking us for bringing yoga back to Makawao,
which is centrally located, upcountry on Maui. Despite this very
hot summer Makawao is at 1700 feet elevation and enjoys a cooler
climate with trade breezes. For a studio location map please click:
http://www.yogaawareness.com/studios/yogaAwareness/locationMakawao.php.
The yoga boutique is open 10:30am to
5pm Monday to Saturday. It is independently managed by Lauren Smith
and thanks to her retail expertise the boutique is looking fantastic.
Come and check it out the next time you're in Makawao!

MAUI YOGA RETREAT - 1 week
Students from around the States , Germany, Japan and local Maui
residents came together for the July 2005 one week retreats. All
our daily distractions were taken care of as we immersed in Yoga.
I would like to thank Kolealea Retreat Center for hosting us and
Consuelo Catering for nurturing us with gourmet food and love.
I've
just secured a new retreat center on Maui to host our 2006 Yoga
Awareness Retreats. All you need is your airfare and now is a great
time to plan for the one week retreats in January and July 2006.
Each retreat includes 7 days teaching, 7 nights shared accommodation,
3 gourmet meals daily, Maui airport transfers and Hawaii state tax.
Please click to view: http://www.yogaawareness.com/retreats.php.

YOGA TRAINING - 1 year
The next Yoga Training programs begin January 2006. This is a one
year commitment of coming to Maui for 6 one week Retreats. The Training
is ideal for 'Self' study and teacher training, if that is your
dharma. We are taking applicants now so please register your interest
online: http://www.yogaawareness.com/trainings.php.
Hope
to see you soon !
Mahalo, Ted
