Aloha
& Gidday
I've
just had a wonderful weekend of workshops in Santa Barbara and Costa
Mesa. Now I'm "down under" in Surfers Paradise, Australia
for a week of R&R with family. Qantas upgraded me from LAX,
which was such a gift for the 16 hour flight. There was a one hour
transit in New Zealand, my country of origin, and I had such a feeling
of wanting to rush up to every shop attendant in the airport just
to hear them speak "Kiwi". Arriving in Australia, our
cousin country, brought a smile to my face. The first sign out of
the skyway said "Gidday ... welcome to Brisbane". It's
so much fun being "down under" again and immersed in this
culture.
It's
interesting how we can move away from our family, friends and country,
then only later to understand the unspoken connection that we have
with our heritage. Modern day travel takes us very easily away from
something that is very familiar to us but it's important to maintain
this link.
Later
next week I head back to LA for a one day workshop in Santa Monica
before going home to Maui.
KOLEALEA
RETREATS
There are a few spaces available for the 2 one week Retreats on
Maui in July. All you need is your airfare to Maui, everything else
is provided. This is a great deal and opportunity to dive deep into
the practice and study of Yoga. Retreat 1 (July 17 - 24, 2005) is
the pre-requisite for Retreat 2 (July 24 - 31, 2005). Please register
now if you're interested: www.yogaawareness.com/retreats.php.
HAIKU
- NEW SUTRA CHANTING CLASS
Thank you (our Maui sanga) for your regular commitment to the "health
& fitness" classes every Tuesday evening and Thursday morning
in Haiku. I'm starting again on June 21 and will be adding on the
weekly schedule a Friday evening "sutra chanting" class.

KANAIO
WORKSHOPS
Last month we held our first workshop in the very remote location
of Kanaio, Maui. What a delight to witness a "shift" as
students met in Ulupalakua, shared cars to drive to the end of the
road and then hiked in. Their practice and chanting was to a vibrancy
that equalled the electric frequency of this higher mountain altitude.
Our gracious hosts, who live on the "land" and understand
the meaning of silence, praised the students for their sensitivity
to this special place. It's definitely an experience not to be missed!
Locals, get out of your Maui routine and if you're visiting Maui
then you're more than welcome to join us. The next Kanaio workshop
is July 02. Reservations are essential (max 9 students): www.yogaawareness.com/eventDetail.php?ID=248.
